House portraits by Mark McLaughlin
I have always been interested in buildings and architecture and, over the years have found a way to combine my passion in portraying these subjects through my House Portrait paintings.
My portraits are all about depicting a unique record of people's homes and capturing the character and detail of each, often including portrayal of owners' children, pets etc. The light is always an important consideration to the painting, so I pick a good time of day that will enhance the subject with interesting shadows. It all helps to create a enhanced mood and atmosphere to the finished piece.
I have completed many assignments, both private and for establishments, in the UK and abroad. Commissions have included:
Portraying the Westminster Abbey Choir School, as a present to the Headmaster
Wellington College. a painting of Benson house for the retiring House Master
Invitation to the Cote D'Azure to record a Swedish Count's home in a series of paintings
